It Really Is Thought By Me Can Be Done

First of most great job to the SNP for finding yourself the biggest party – 47 seats in comparison to Labor’s 46. During writing it is not clear what will happen. However my choice along the way forward would be the not apparent solution – let the SNP and Labor to form a coalition federal government?

Labour would have to accept that the Scottish people are entitled to a referendum on independence. In my own view on this isn’t a bad thing. I’m actually moving increasingly more in favor myself. It would also give the SNP a chance to learn from Labor’s many years in power and to ensure that knowledge was not lost. One of my main concerns about the SNP manifesto was their proposal to abolish sportscotland. I am a board member of sportscotland, so I have a particular interest in this. However, trying to put my personal interest to 1 side, I simply do not see how replacing the sportscotland panel with several politicians makes any sense whatsoever.

The sportscotland table consists of independently appointed people, most of whom are (from my experience) very high quality individuals. Sportscotland was set up by Royal Charter to ensure it remained independent from the normal politics process, and I just don’t see how changing this will improve the sport in Scotland. I put on participate it because I believed I could change lives.

I would be disappointed if this is the opportunity was reminded, with sportscotland replaced by another national authorities division. I am very supportive of pushing for Scottish representation in every sports actually, i.e. using a Scottish team at events like the World and Olympics Championships. I cannot observe how this can be a bad thing for Scottish sport.

It gives significantly greater opportunities for Scottish sports athletes to seem on the world stage, and that will in my opinion business lead to better inspiration from our athletes much, resulting in improved performances. We already see improvements in performance specifications in Commonwealth Games years across lots of sports – athletes all of a sudden have an achievable target, so are prepared to force themselves that little bit further to get there. I am hoping that the Labor and SNP, working for the benefit of the Scottish people together, take this on board. There is no doubt in my own brain that sport must be a higher priority for any Scottish government.

There are 2 aspects to the – as layed out in the recently published technique for sport – that are to increase involvement and to improve performance. Both are important equally. We need to get this right – I worry greatly about our ability to fund the health service in 10 to 15 years time if we don’t take steps now to improve the fitness of the population of Scotland. Initiatives like jogscotland have this important role to play in this. It really is thought by me can be done.

Next week is the Glasgow Women’s 10k, and we’ve around 50 women from our firm taking part. When you bear in mind that we only have about 400 people altogether (both men and women) I quickly think that is an excellent response. It just goes to show what goes on when you get a few enthusiastic people in a place of work and it becomes ‘cool’ to take part. The London Olympics in 2012, and ideally the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, have the potential to be always a key influence in assisting people moving to a much better and much healthier lifestyle. Let’s hope everyone makes the most of these fantastic opportunities.
